One of my co-workers (another Desert Rat) told me about this site (http://newweb.wrh.noaa.gov/lkn/swus.php). It has hourly weather data for actual remote weather stations all across the southwest. Just click on the map icons to see the data for that station. It even gives the GPS coordinates for the station.
I was very pleasantly surprised to find:
Means Lake (http://newweb.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/getobext.php?wfo=lkn&sid=MNLC1) has a weather station here (http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=34.3844&lon=-116.5239&datum=nad83&u=5&layer=DRG&size=l&s=200) (red x in the center of the Topozone map).
and
Lucerne Valley (http://newweb.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/getobext.php?wfo=sgx&sid=AR854&num=48) has a weather station here (http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=34.4248&lon=-116.8798&datum=nad83&u=5&layer=DRG100&size=l&s=200) (red x in the center of the Topozone map).
These do not give forecasts, but it is cool to know what the actual weather is, including wind, wind gusts, wind chill (only shows up if it is in the 30's), precipitation, etc.
<Note: this is a copy of a post on my club's BB, I thought you guys would also be interested in this.>
