Ok, so I found this place that I want to wheel. It is similar to the Hammers in Rock Type, but longr than any of the trails at Johnson Valley. The technical level of this trail screams "Don't try this alone!" so I need some support. I'd say no less than 3-4 buggies.
Anyone want to come to R/C to try a local trail?
I'll try and get pics as soon as I can, but I assure you that you wont be dissapointed. I would say that as a 'Bender... There isn't a member that would look up this canyon like Camo did the first time he saw Surprise!

I don't care what you bring. Paved Road runs about 100ft from the bottom of the trail, and it's a pretty quick, 5 minutes grated frun to pavement from the top.
I can't believe that none of us have ever run it before, but sho-enuf it's virgin!

When we get enough people, who are ready.
Matts truck is in pieces, so we need some non-locals to come hang out.

right im thinking that most non-locals are down right now so we might be waiting till after the jambo. cause that is is when everyone is trying to get up and running buy..i think..

Maybe we should plan an early Feb trip then.
Flash
12-29-2004, 04:56 PM
maybe what is everyone elses schedule looking like for early feb.?
feb 11-13 is a weroc event that I might be going to. Jan 29th weekend might work.
Phil non street legal vehicles are good for this area? Place to park tow rig and trailer? Are we camping? Is there going to be snow? If camping, is there a place to camp in the motor home or trailer or are we doing the tent thing on the trail or are we all camping/sleeping/eating and drinking all of Krusty's beer at his house???
Desert Jeepin
12-30-2004, 08:31 AM
It's a 10 minute road drive from my place, maybe 15 from Krustys.
We can do anything we want. It's right on the edge of Spangler Hills ORV Area.
I've got an extra bedroom, I think Krusty does as well. Also, you could always bring the home and plug into our shore power/tv and what-not.
Snow is not an issue, I don't think it's ever seen snow. We are talking maybe 2500ft. in altitude.
There should be no reason for a tent on the trail thing, with FULLY capable rigs, we should get it in one day, but now I have doubts.
It's fully doable, but man, it looks long.

Phil.... For the life of me, I can't think of where your talkin' about. Clue me in...
Desert Jeepin

It's off Randsburg Wash Road, past the Trona Road intersection. It's entrance (Bottom) in actually looking at Searls Vally I believe.

We need to get a wiring harness for Krusty's tow rig. I have a windshield, hood and possibly doors lined up waiting to be installed. A few of the Tinbenders And I have talked about doing this, it's time we get Krusty a safe way to get his rig to the trail. Wheel on Saturday and wrench on Sunday?

Phil, I am certainly up for getting krusty going. I'll pitchin and distract JKA so we can use his truck for 'reference' :D :D
what do you guys say to the last weekend or first weekend in Feb??
is a new harness needed? or can we splice the wires that got melted?? If we need to order one, get me the specifics and I'll order it tomorrow.
offroad_joe
01-10-2005, 09:01 PM
The wiring harness is toast from the firewall out, it plugs into the firewall. A friend of mine told me the easiest way to do this is try to get a complete w/h from a like truck and just replace it all from the firewall out the front to the headlights, the engine and out to the taillights. He says it's all plug and play on Chevy's. We put a HEI dist. in it to get it running, so Ideally we need a post points w/h. I think he said post 76. I just called him but no answer, I will get a hold of him tomorrow. I have the end of the w/h that plugs in to the firewall if someone needs a picture of it I will take one and e-mail it to them.
I have a prior commitment on the last weekend of Jan. but I am open the first weekend of Feb.

offroad_joe
01-11-2005, 07:45 PM
I talked to my friend today he said any 73 - 76 and maybe 77 will work, he said not to worry about the HEI dist it is only one wire. The w/h is the only real hold up to getting Krusty into a safe tow vehicle. Bender had said there were several junk yards in Ridgecrest if one of you guys can look there. I will be out of town this weekend but will try to get to pick-a-part on Wednesday next week. Post up if anyone finds one before then.

I have been told they changed the plug that goes into the firewall around 1977. We already put a HEI dist in it when we got it off the dirt road.
Pat do you have a source for a wiring harness in your bag of useless knowledge? graemlins/thefinger.gif
We need the whole thing from the firewall out to the headlights, engine and back to the tailights. Suburban, Truck, Blazer, long bed, short bed it doesn't matter, we can always splice the existing back section.

I was told, depending on which one I choose, it'll be $70 at the worse.

Sweet, I found one in lakeside by JC"S house,$150.
I also just got a responce from one of the online places they want $150 shipped to me.
Phil should I send you an e-mail whith a pic of the plug?
Does anyone know if Krusty has rebuilt the carb?
He said he had somone at work that was good with carbs and would have him rebuild it.
I will go Saturday and pick up the hood, windshield and seal. If the guy has switched out the doors I will get them also, if not I will get them at a later date.
SO what day are we planning this for? I am not available next Saturday 1/29 but can come up on Sunday. I am available any other Saturday or

Unless there is someone close to Butler that is coming up and can give him the $100. The safest way to come up is 5 -> 14! There is no need to ever touch 395 unless you cut across Garlock, but Krusty lives on the other side of town so there's no point.
395 is a death trap, and now it's a CHP trap since they've changed it's status to a safety corridor.

Butler has the guys # and was going to get the parts if they are good. Mike is going to get them from Butler and bring them to ridgcrest on Sat. That was the last plan I had heard???????
Mike can you give Butler the $100 for the parts and I will give it to you on Sat?
Would it just be easier for me to go up the 5 and meet up with Butler Sat morning early?
Butler

Any way you guys want it. Looks like I will get the parts this afternoon.
Butler
02-02-2005, 01:35 PM
O.K. I just talked to the guy again. I will pick them up tonight at 5. Mike, I have to drop off my truck in T.O. on Friday night so maybe I will swing by your place and drop them off? That way Joe can still get nailed by AAA with a badge for not having fenders or something. :D

Butler called and said the parts are pretty nice. He said one fender had a quarter size rust spot but everything else looked to be in good condition. He will drop them off to Mike on Friday.
So this is what we have:
Joe windshield and seal, I will bring some wire and connectors.
Mike doors and fenders
Phil wiring harness
Krusty tools ?
Shaun will bring Chris (we need someone small to crawl under to run wires and get dirty)
Anybody think of anything else we will need?

9am sounds good to me.
I haven't heard anything about Krusty getting the carb fixed. It will run the way it is, we drove it from the dirt road into Hesperia (sp) about 35 miles. We were running out of daylight and were going to be w/out lights. The float had swelled and was sticking so we field stripped it, shaved down the float and proceeded to put it back together. To say the least it was being a real bitch,we were having trouble with the choke and the metering rods so we cut the choke linkage.

Can someone give me directions as a backup? I can get to Ridgecrest, but don't know where to go once I get there. I'll be following Mike up on Saturday and heading to the LBC on Sunday.

You can come up the 15, to 395 north which dumps you into R/C, or you can take the 5n, to 14n which dumps you into r/c.

Not that I could tell, but we didn't go all the way to the top. There were some wild waterfalls though.

If you are heading toward Echo, when you make the turn to the right, start looking to the right and you will see a rock wall. That is the first waterfall, then it is a wash for a about 1/4 mile, then more rocks. Blocks 16 and 17 on the topo.
Chevyotki
02-08-2005, 07:04 PM
If you go to terraserver and do an aerial zoomed all the way in of -117.47578 Long and 35.59379 Lat. I think it is the wash running across the top
