I have never been to the area... what is the camping situation around there? Is there room for RV's and such?

Theres all the room in the world for your RV, its a big dry lake bed. Bring lots of sunblock (30+ SPF), chap stick and a pair of goggles.

Do you have to make reservations or just show up? Like I said, I have never been there before.

Just show up. No reservations. There are no facilities but I think the Benders are getting some port-a-potties for the event. Lots of room for all.

A flat, dry lake bed-- @ 1 mile X 1 1/2 mile, you could land a C130 without a problem (as long as you avoided the bomb craters). Bicycles to semi-trucks, motor homes to Celica GT. And with all dry lake beds, dust is the major problem, but you get used to it, and the dust can be held to a minimum with a little consideration !
