View Full Version : Toyota Jamboree
It's official, we have secured the legal necessities (permit and insurance) and we'll be working hard to obtain some corporate sponsors (hint, hint ) but the TinBenders will be hosting this years Toyota Jamboree at The Hammers.
More info will be available in the next few days, but these are basic facts...
We'll stick with the agreed upon new date of 4/24-26 (The only scheduling conflicts will arise from BLM but we've confirmed that that weekend is open).
We are committed to keeping with the theme that All-Pro helped cultivate in that the Jambo is for all levels of drivers and rigs. We will strive to offer as many runs as possible encompassing all diffulculty levels.
We are also committed to fighting for our Public Lands, therefore ALL profits will go to a charity of choice, for this years Jambo we will again choose FOPV (Friends of Panamint Valley - the fight to reopen Surprise Canyon).
The price will be below $30 per rig and hopefully will include a T-Shirt and will definitely include all runs, the magical winning raffle ticket and a fancy shmancy dash plaque
I will be contacting potential sponsors this week with regards to hosting a meal or two and to secure prizes for the raffle.
We hope to see everyone out on the Lake Bed so we can continue the tradition that's been passed on.
Any questions, post em up or send me a PM. We will be bringing up a web page in the next couple weeks with a registration form and run sign up sheet. Anyone interested in leading a run or donating there time in anyway, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Our apologies for the delay in announcing our involvement and any scheduling conflicts this creates, we are commited to this for years to come and look forward to you joning us on the last weekend of April.
Regards
TinBendersI copied Daves post to here also. You guys know I will help where needed for this. Maybe a second trail hand to assist the leader or something?? tongue.gif

Thanks Benders graemlins/skull.gif
I had a hard on when I read Daves post on PBB. I really didn't like the thought of somebody makin a proffit off this event, and for what, a dash plaque, sticker or a Tshirt so I could thump my chest and say "been there done that"? Naw, This event needs to be free or for a good cause.
Just let me know what ya need from me, I'm yours ;)

Newby to this board. I took a gander at the line up for this event, and it appears that all but two runs require 35"+ meats. The SUV run and Aftershock appear to be made for people of stock or near stock vehicles. I have never been to Johnson Valley, nor a CA Toyota Jamboree, it seems to be distance thing, especially in a lifted rig smile.gif
Is there anymore information on the web about some of the more difficult runs, such as Sun Bonnet, Big Johnson, Claw Hammer? I figured if I'm gonna drive 12 hours, I want to make it worth my time.
I just completed a rear coil to spring swap on my rig, and by the time April rolls around, I should have a few more body armor pieces built.
I guess the real question to you folks that live out there; would I be crazy to think I could take this rig on some of the above listed trails????
Here are some pictures of the results of my rear coil swap. Of course, body armor will be replaced before any serious run.

If you want to test it without destroying it, Aftershock is a good choice. SUV run is just a stock truck type run. Definatly need good rocker and rearend protection. If it's a manual, low t-case gearing of some sort will be hard to do without.

Steve---- 35" tires are recommended- but Aftershock CAN be done on 33"s-- you mentioned some 'body armor'-- it would help. you didn't mention gearing, trans, lockers, and if you plan running with doors or not, and IF you would cry if you were to get a ding in the runner-----
AS we have said before---- the Hammers have EARNED their reputation. The trails are not 'long' runs-- but unlike any anywhere else. ROCKS and only a couple of the trails have a 'parking lot' rest area between obsticals.(Aftershock being one). IF you are expecting a leasure drive thru some 'Wally-mart' lot, --- not at the Hammers. The trails are UPhill and test the driveing skill of the operator, as well as the 'builtness' of the rig. A truely 'stock' rig won't make it to the trails--- they WILL more than likely get stuck in the sand enroute.
NOT to scare you off, but I just want you to know that the Hammers are for 'wheelers' and not the 'posers' that we all see at wally-mart.
WE WELCOME anyone that wants to wheel !!!!!
EVERY year there are a few that show up- drive TO the trail - look up at what they are gonna drive up----"FAUK NO WAY !!!" and return to camp. (ME INCLUDED)(depending on the trail) There are some that I CAN do, some that I can't do, and some I won't even try !!!! graemlins/skull.gif !

If I bring down a utility trailer to lock my street tires to and to keep the bulky spare parts in i don't want to carry on the trail(locked up as best as possible), would it be safe parked by our tent or do things go missing on a regular basis down there?

Pook- I have never heard of anyone looseing anything !! there is always the possibility of a first time-- but I've never heard of theft at the Hammers !
thats cool, good to hear. would of been a real pain dragging all our spares and stuff everywhere we go, especially since I'm driving down and really want to be prepared for worst case breakage.
getting excited smile.gif just about finished inboarding the rear springs and have all the ifs junk cut off the new truck...just need to install the front diff, daul case/gears and build a flatdeck.

as i said, i have never heard of anything disappearing from camp at the Hammers-- I COULDN'T EVEN GIVE AWAY A TOY THIRD !!!!!!
The camp is littered with tires, doors, gas cans, and all thecamp gear you could think of !!!
the camp is never deserted and there are always folks watching stuff !
Never even thought of gas cans, I guess with 3 full days of wheeling we should bring down some gas cans. How close is the nearest gas station? In case we don't bring enough?
