At our club meeting (The Spinnin' Fours) last Thurs the subject of the Benders and the Gear Grinders came up... From what the old timers in our club tell me, the Tin Benders evolved out of the Gear Grinders... is that correct? If so, since several of the Gear Grinders are former Spinnin' Fours (joined or formed the Gear Grinders after moving to the desert)that sort of makes us related! :D

What is the scoop? Krusty, you must be the historian...

YEP !!- in Ridgecrest there was only one club-- Gear Grinders. But with the younger crowd joining they wanted to do some of the 'harder' stuff other than dirt roads. Off shoots of Last Chance, Surprize Canyon, Isham Canyon, Stone Canyon and others. But when invited to come along, one of the 'older' Gear Grinders said --"hell no !!- you guys just go out and BEND TIN"---- SO__________ it stuck on the 'splinter' group- "those 'TIN BENDERS'" !!
Some of the Tin Benders are still members of the Gear Grinders !! Last year, the pres. was a Tin Bender ! Grimsleys, Maddox, Barlett, Moore---- connections to Spinnin'Fours, and Tri-County !
